Are you aware of what's happening around you? Do you stay in the present moment or are you always dwelling on the past and worried about the future? Well, if you answered yes to dwelling on the past and worrying about the future, then I would like to introduce you to MINDFULNESS! Mindfulness is a mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations used as a therapeutic technique. (Merriam-Webster).
Applying Mindfulness techniques helps to reduce anxiety, stress and depression. Mindfulness brings awareness to the NOW. An example of implementing Mindfulness is paying attention to your breathing, the key is to ONLY pay attention to your breathing, which is bringing awareness to your breathing. Mindfulness can also be utilized in a bigger way!
For me, I apply Mindfulness daily. I start my day out with Mindfulness by getting up in the morning and paying attention to my surroundings; such as the beautiful roses in my room or opening the blinds and looking out the window at the beautiful morning sun. And when engaging in Mindfulness, I don't turn on the television or pick up my phone until I've connected to my surroundings, self and my higher power, GOD!
